ESB Feis Ceoil, 2011

The young ladies of Classicus Youth Chamber Choir competed at this year’s Feis Ceoil, in the RDS, Ballsbridge. The hard work and commitment shown by the girls stood to them and they were awarded first place in the Youth Choir three-part (minimum) competition. Although they had some stiff competition, the girls’ performance was of a very high standard. Congratulations to all involved!

Biography

Classicus Youth Chamber Choir was formed in 2002 and had their inaugural performance with soprano Niamh Murray in the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre. They have taken part in the Studio’s Annual Gala Concert in the National Concert Hall for the past six years and have been invited to perform at a number of private parties and corporate events. They have also appeared in the Kodály Society’s Festival of Choirs with many other award-winning groups. Classicus had their first taste of competition when they entered Siemens Feis Ceoil 2007, winning First Place. They competed again this year and came in second to the highly acclaimed New Dublin Voices.

Classicus Youth Chamber Choir travelled to the International Choral Festival in Budapest in June 2006 and received a standing ovation for their performance of the Haydn Little Organ Mass there.

The choir took their second international trip to the Vienna International Choral Festival Advent 2007. They sang all over the city, including carol singing at the Schonbrunn Palace and an impromptu performance at the Rathaus during the closing ceremony.

It was a welcome break after a great deal of hard work as Classicus and Classicus Ensemble presented their first full concert programme in November 2007 with their performance of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Fauré’s Requiem. The concert was a resounding succes.

489.JPGAfter performing Seán Ó Riada's Aifrinn on St. Patrick's Day 2009, Classicus were invited into RTÉ to perform the mass to mark World Day of Prayer for Priests and the start of the Pope's dedicated Year for Priests, which was televised live on RTÉ1 on Sunday 21st June 2009. This mass was streamed internationally as part of a series of masses celebrated for the same purpose around the world. This can be viewed on RTÉ player HERE until Sunday 12th July 2009.

Classicus are now presenting their fourth series of Masses in St. Mary's Church, Haddington Road, and will be presenting a choral performance of the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi there, Holy Week 2010. Full details will be posted onto the website in due course.
